Your Daily Giant 3/4/2013

Today's Daily Giant is an account reported from Tioga Point, Penn. from the American Anthropological Association, Anthropological Society of Washington (Washington, D.C.), American Ethnological Society 1921, page 190. The following is reported, "21 inch thigh bone, must have been seven feet tall, skull much larger than usual, very thick, unusually receding forehead, and the top flattened. The jaws were extremely strong, full of large perfect teeth, Altogether the remains seemed to be of a brutal and very powerful giant." This reads like several of the finds of Warren K. Moorhead the "Dean of American Archaeology". Moorhead found in Connecticut, "Flat heads, bones of great strength and both skeletons possessed a perfect set of teeth of unusual size." Also at Tioga Point just like today's account he unearthed 68 skeletons averaging 7 feet with "many much taller".

Personally, I know that the American Anthropological Association was always concocting wild hoaxes. There is certainly much to be gained from burying a story on page 190 of an obscure scientific journal. I can see all the suckers lining up right now to get fleeced at the carnival. I bet this story made the American Anthropological Association yearly report sell like hot cakes. There is another possibility however, just like the friendly skeptics tell us. Many of these could have been misidentified Mammoth and Mastodon bones. What do you think? Do you think you could tell the difference between an elephant skull and a human skull? Do you think a trained professional could? Do you think your four year old kid could? I guess this foolishness could be described by the famous Upton Sinclair quote, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"
